The Academy of Military Medical Sciences (AMMS), founded in 1951, is the highest medical research institution of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). It is mainly engaged in researches on Military Medicine, Basic Medicine, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Research. Since 2003, the Academy has doubled as the PLA Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army (PLAGH) was founded in 1953, a large modern general hospital that has numerous professional talents, all clinical disciplines, state-of-the-art equipments and unique predominance. The PLAGH is at the same time the PLA Medical College that was founded in 1958. It is the same institution that has two names and is the only hospital-run education institution in the PLA.
